One of the things about this group is that the name kept evolving with the music. On this disc from spring 2005, Jaime Fennelly, Chris Forsyth, and Fritz Welch name the project psi and also pee-ess-eye for bonus pronunciation clarity. It's a mixture of studio, live, and field recordings, including some fine audience baiting at Uncle Pleasant's in Louisville KY. An early peak.

As they described it at the time: "Like a golden goose stewed in it’s own piss, psi has rolled in the dirt and drunk from the tit of performance spaces all over the US and Europe and has released three recordings on the Evolv- ing Ear label. Captured live and in the studio over the past two years, Artificially Retarded Soul Care Operators is the definitive psi blast of true and pure sacrificial brain-rot. A fifty-minute collec- tion of densely cultivated mitherings from the un- foreseen masters of complete silence. Full-color gatefold cover art by Fritz Welch and Stephen O’Malley."

But don't just take it from them. Byron Coley held forth thusly on the virtues of these sounds in The Wire: "This is some very heavy garbage, sliced up like red cheese and served from the lips of John the Baptist"...whatever that means.
